KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and China support ongoing efforts regarding visa exemption to foster friendly relations between the two countries.

In a joint statement today, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his counterpart, Li Qiang said China agreed to extend the facility until the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, Malaysia will extend the visa exemption until the end of 2026.


"The two leaders expressed a deep interest in continuing negotiations and discussions on joint visa waivers to facilitate the entry of Malaysians and Chinese citizens," according to the joint statement.

Li is currently on a three-day working visit to Malaysia that ends today in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.

In a joint statement, the two countries also confirmed to carry out a new round of joint research on panda protection in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, thus strengthening scientific research cooperation.

In addition, Kuala Lumpur and Beijing also agreed to increase educational cooperation to a new level, strengthening cooperation in vocational education, joint scientific research and digital education.

"Recognizing institutions of higher education to jointly establish institutes of advanced studies, increase interaction between think tanks and institutions of higher education, to encourage joint visits between teachers and students, increase cultural exchange and mutual learning.

"At the same time, both sides welcome more cooperation in the field of media, news and publishing, film and broadcasting to increase understanding and friendship between the people of both countries, especially the young generation," added the joint statement.
