KUALA LUMPUR: The owner of Tiktok, ByteDance, plans to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) and make Malaysia an AI hub in the region with a proposed investment of about RM10 billion.

Development of Malaysia's Digital Economy: This additional investment from ByteDance is expected to help Malaysia achieve its target of expanding the digital economy to 22.6 percent of Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz through a post on the X website (formerly known as Twitter) said the matter was informed during his meeting with TikTok Vice President Helena Lersch in Singapore, today.
So far, Tengku Zafrul said, TikTok through ByteDance System has developed a data center at Sedenak Tech Park, Kulai, Johor.
According to him, taking into account the company's future needs, it also intends to expand its data center facilities with an additional investment of RM1.5 billion.
