2 Wanted Criminals Shot Dead In Shootout With Police in Johor.

JOHOR BAHRU: Two men suspected of being criminals were killed after exchanging gunfire with policemen in Jalan Abad, near here, on Friday afternoon.

Johor Police Chief, Commissioner M Kumar confirmed receiving a report regarding the police exchange of fire at 5.04pm.

According to him, a 42-year-old suspect and his friend were shot dead while in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were riding.


"The incident occurred when a police team from Division D14, Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Bukit Aman together with Division D9, JSJ Johor Contingent followed a white Toyota Estima at the scene of the incident in a suspicious condition.

"When he realized he was being followed, the suspect sped away while firing several shots at the police vehicle that was following closely behind him.

"The suspect's actions caused the police to open fire at the MPV the suspect was riding in. The exchange of fire continued until the situation was safe," he said in a media statement issued today.

Kumar said, the results of the examination found that the two suspects in the Toyota Estima had been shot and died.

He also said that a check was made and found that the 42-year-old suspect has 38 criminal and drug records while another suspect has yet to be identified after no identification documents were found.

"Further inspection conducted found two pistols in the suspect's vehicle.

"The police also found a pistol on the body of one of the suspects. Various types of substances believed to be dangerous drugs were also found in the vehicle," he said.

He explained that the case was investigated according to Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Before that, several videos showing the shooting incident went viral, which shocked road users and residents.

In addition, there is also a video showing policemen diverting the flow of traffic in the Tea Garden area after Jalan Abad was temporarily closed due to the incident.
