KUALA LUMPUR: The cunning tactics of the smuggling syndicate of illegal aliens (PATI) who use the express bus service from Kota Bharu, Kelantan to the nation's capital were exposed after the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) busted it at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) here last Wednesday.

A special operation from the Intelligence and Special Operations Division of the Putrajaya Immigration Headquarters at about 4.30pm succeeded in arresting 36 illegal aliens including four women.

In fact, it is understood that the syndicate charges a fee of RM10,000 for each PATI to enter the country.

Director-General of Immigration, Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said, immigration managed to locate three separate express buses carrying the PATI involved on the East Coast Highway before being followed to TBS.

"The operation team then proceeded to conduct an inspection as soon as all the passengers got off the bus at TBS.

"The inspection found that the illegal aliens involved consisted of 20 Bangladeshi nationals and 16 Myanmar nationals aged between 19 and 45," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said, the review found that there was no security stamp on their passports and there were illegal immigrants who did not have any valid travel documents and had a blacklist record based on a record of past offences.

He said the syndicate's modus operandi was to smuggle PATI through illegal routes before being taken to Penang and Kuala Lumpur by using public transport to obscure the authorities.

Strictly speaking, this success is a string of previous operations carried out at the same location last December and January 2023.

"All illegal aliens have been arrested on suspicion of committing an offense under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and detained at the Semenyih Immigration Depot for further investigation," he explained. - Daily Rays
