CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will take legal action against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, for failing to take down harmful content.
The action will be taken following several requests that MCMC found for Meta to deal with issues related to harmful content, failed to take sufficient action.

In a statement on Friday, MCMC also informed that the response from Meta was very slow and unsatisfactory and not commensurate with the seriousness of the issue which invited concern and public scrutiny.

It is also a measure to ensure users are protected and have a safe environment in the digital world.

According to MCMC, the action is necessary in instilling accountability for cyber security in addition to empowering user protection against harmful content, including fraudulent activities.

Harmful content involves the 3R elements, namely race, King Institution and religion, as well as several other elements, such as impersonation, online gambling and fraudulent advertising.
