MELAKA: A total of 64 tourism events are planned throughout this year to promote and boost the celebration of Visit  Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024), next year.

State Tourism, Heritage, Art and Culture Exco Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said out of the total, 13 tourism events became major programs and had a high impact on the state's tourism sector and economy, as well as the people of Malacca.

He said that among the tourism activities in question are Melaka International Muaythai (July 29 to 30), Melaka Tricycle Carnival 2023 (Sept 1 and 2), Freshwater Fishing and Cooking Competition 2023 (Sept 3), and Melaka International Air Carnival (KUAM) 2023 (Sept 29 to Oct 3).

"We will also evaluate and carefully organize this tourism event next year as a supplement or program in conjunction with TMM 2024, in an effort to reach the target of 18.7 million tourists next year.

"The tourism program drawn up next year will cover all tourism sub-sectors in Melaka, including sports such as international marathon programs and dragon boat competitions, which will certainly attract many participants from home and abroad," he told reporters after officiating the Boat Parade. Malacca Dragon 2023 here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Abdul Razak said the TMM 2024 Launch Ceremony will be completed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Malaysian Tourism Center (MaTiC), Kuala Lumpur on 14 July next.

He said the launch ceremony will also involve tourism industry activists in Melaka who will also promote the tourism products and services offered.

Earlier, Abdul Razak said the Melaka Dragon Boat Race 2023, which involves 40 groups with a total of nearly 500 participants from home and abroad, will take place at the Sungai Information Center in Pengkalan Rama here, on July 2 next.

He said the organization of the 41st sports event, not only promotes the water sports in conjunction with the Duanwu Festival, which is a major traditional festival of the Chinese people, but is able to promote the Melaka tourism sector.
