30 items set under Aidilfitri maximum price scheme
SALAHUDDIN Ayub shows the Maximum Price Scheme for the 2023 Hari Raya Puasa Festival Season
PUTRAJAYA: A total of 30 types of goods are set through the 2023 Hari Raya Puasa Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) which will start this Saturday until next April 30.
According to the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the implementation of the scheme will be seven days before, two days during and seven days after the Aidilfitri festival.
He said, a total of 24 types of goods are controlled under the scheme, including six types of goods from the chicken and egg types under the determination of the Maximum Price of Chicken and Chicken Eggs which has been in effect since February 5.
"The implementation period of this scheme allows consumers to enjoy reasonable prices and traders are not stressed by the implementation period being too long.
"The list of goods, the maximum price level and the implementation period are determined based on several factors such as the weather, the global economy, foreign currency exchange rates, wage rates and demand and supply," he said at the SHMMP Hari Raya Puasa 2023 announcement here today.
Salahuddin also hoped that all parties would be able to comply with the set prices and use the pink label for the price of controlled goods enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.
He reminded that strict action will be taken against traders who fail to comply with the regulations under this scheme.
"KPDN enforcement officers will be assigned to strategic locations such as public markets, farmers' markets and shopping centers for festival essentials to enable immediate action to be taken against consumer complaints," he said.
Commenting further, Salahuddin said that KPDN always cooperates with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to ensure that the supply of controlled goods is sufficient throughout the implementation period of the scheme.
Thus, he hoped that the people would not make panic purchases and would not have to rush to get the necessary items ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
A total of 24 items controlled under the price scheme are local beef except daging batang pinang (Peninsula only), imported beef (Sarawak only), buffalo meat imported from India, ikan kembung, ikan selayang, ikan tongkol dan ikan demudok.
In addition, tomatoes, red chili, imported round cabbage, long beans, cucumber, mustard greens, imported ginger, imported red onion, yellow onion, Chinese garlic, Indian red onion (rose), Indian red onion, imported potatoes (China), dried curly chilies, peanuts, coconut seeds and grated coconut
