PUTRAJAYA, Nov 2 -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has received complaints regarding traders and restaurant owners serving beverages of different brands and quality from the ones advertised on the menu.

KPDNHEP Enforcement Division director Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman, in a statement today, said the menu stated drinks like ‘Milo’ or ‘Nescafe’, but customers were not served the drinks they had ordered for, and as such, the traders or restaurant operators had breached the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.

The use of false trade descriptions on goods or food offered by traders or restaurants is an offence under section 5 (1) (b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, which carries a fine not exceeding RM250,000, upon conviction, he added.

He said the ministry had conducted checks on 881 restaurants and eateries nationwide from Oct 7 until Oct 27, where two cases were filed for using false trade descriptions.

The public can channel information to KPDNHEP by lodging relevant complaints via its portal at eaduan.kpdnhep.gov.my or at 1-800-886-800 or through Whatsapp to 019-2794317.

Complaints can also be made to the Enforcement Command Centre (ECC) at 03-88826088 or in person at any nearby KPDNHEP office.
