LUMUT, Oct 21 -- A motorcyclist who stopped his vehicle with the pretext of searching for his missing mobile phone was among 48 individuals detained by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) at an oil palm estate in Pantai Remis yesterday.

Manjung AADK chief Asnida Ahmad said the 42-year-old man failed to hoodwink the agency’s members as he was arrested along with the others aged between 27 and 65 years at 9.20 am in Ops Perdana yesterday.

“The arrests were made following public tip off and surveillance carried out at several locations including two oil palm estates in Pantai Remis and Sitiawan, from last Sunday till noon yesterday,” he said when contacted today.

"Those detained are village workers and fishermen,” he said adding that 44 of the men have tested positive for heroin and methamphetamine.

Asnida said the oil palm estate was believed to have become a haunt for drug addicts since a month ago adding that it is now the trend to make oil palm estates as mobile ports to avoid detection by the authorities.

He added that the two-week Ops Perdana was conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).
