NST

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were slapped with 58 charges for prostitution-related activities and rape around Klang Valley since last year.
The accused, Khairul Azzua Yusoff and Mohyuddin Ahmad Fajarudin, nodded in understanding when the charges were read before them by Judge M. Kunasundary at the Sessions Court here today.
The duo was charged for living off the immoral earnings and acting as an intermediary person in the prostitution of 14 women including two underage girls and two Indonesian nationals.
The offences falls under Section 372A of the Penal Code and Section 372(1)(f) of the same Code, which carries a maximum of 15 years’ jail with whipping and a fine or both, upon conviction.
For the first offence, Khairul, a medical graduate from a university in Egypt, was slapped with 13 charges, while Mohyuddin, a polytechnic graduate, nine charges.
For the second offence, Khairul who is waiting for his housemanship, faced 23 charges and Mohyuddin, who worked in the hospitality industry, six charges.
The duo was also jointly-charged with three counts of the same offence allegedly committed at several hotels near here between July last year and February this year.
Meanwhile, Khairul was also charged for statutory rape involving one of the women, allegedly committed at Bandar Seri Permaisuri on July 29 last year.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Abazafree Mohd while prosecuting asked no bail be offered to the accused as the offence is a non-bailable one.
However, lawyers P. Muniswer and Ahmad Faris Khairudin who represented the duo requested a lower bail, stating that the bail was only meant to guarantee their clients’ attendance to court.
The court did not offer bail for both of the accused and fixed April 6 for mention.
