54-year-old Tan Sri was remanded for five days until April 4 to allow anti-graft officers to investigate the Sultan's claim.

Tan Sri remanded for five days over bid to bribe Johor Sultan

 

PUTRAJAYA: A Klang-based businessman has been remanded in connection with an alleged RM2mil bribe offer to the Sultan of Johor.  

The 54-year-old Tan Sri was remanded for five days until April 4 to allow anti-graft officers to investigate the Sultan's claim. 

He is remanded under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act.

The man arrived at 9.30am Friday escorted by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers and was brought before Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman. 

Clad in an MACC orange lock-up attire, the Tan Sri avoided flashing cameras and shielded his face.

The Tan Sri is represented by lawyers Datuk K. Kumaraendran, JR Tey and Datuk Joshua Kevin.  

On Thursday, the MACC gave the man till midnight to come out of his "hiding" and surrender himself,  failing which his identity will be revealed. 

Last Saturday, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar wrote on his official Facebook page that he was offered RM2mil to suggest the person's name to the Chief Secretary to the Government for a "Tan Sri" title. 

Sources said the Sultan of Johor was “offended and insulted” by the individual.

The sources said the individual himself was obsessed with titles as “he calls himself Tan Sri Datuk Dr”. 

It is understood that the MACC will investigate accusations that the individual was a “broker” for royal titles and also probe the source of his income.
