Housewife steps on accelerator instead of brake, kills cleaner in accident
IPOH: A 60-year-old woman was killed in a freak accident Tuesday at a commercial centre in Kamunting near here when a car driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal and rammed into her.
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Harrith Kam Abdullah said Hasimah Chin, a cleaner from Kampung Jana Sambungan, Kamunting, was dragged for about 2m.
He said she was pinned underneath the car, and died on the spot in the 8am incident.
He said investigations revealed that the 52-year-old driver, a housewife from Kampung Pisang in Taiping, had accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal after she knocked into the victim who was on a motorcycle.
“The housewife had just driven into Jalan Regat Kamunting when she lost control of her car, and knocked into the victim.
“Instead of stepping on the brakes, she panicked and stepped on the accelerator pedal, and dragged the victim for about 2m.
"The vehicle came to a halt after it knocked into another motorcycle parked in front of a clinic nearby,” ACP Harrith Kam said.
He said the victim sustained severe bodily injuries, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.
