GEORGE TOWN: About 17,500 consumers in Butterworth will experience water supply disruption for 12 hours from 9pm on March 31, according to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP).
PBAPP Chief Executive Officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said in a statement Thursday that the disruption was due to the installation of a new pressure reducing valve (PRV) on a 600mm pipeline at Jalan Uda, Butterworth.
He said the affected areas included Taman Bulan Apartment, Taman Ara, Taman Teratai, Taman Kiambang, Taman Sena, Taman Bunga Raya Merah, Taman Teras Jaya, Taman Segemal, Taman Baiduri, Taman Teratai Indah, Taman Saga and Taman Dedap.
Jaseni advised residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water during the 12-hour disruption on March 31.
"PBAPP deeply regret any inconvenience caused. The installation of the PRV will ensure better water supply services in Butterworth, as well as on Penang Island, in the future. It will benefit water consumers in the long-term," he said.
He said the primary objective of installing the PRV was to prevent and minimise future inconvenience to consumers in Butterworth arising from burst pipes and underground leakage that caused unscheduled water supply interruption. - Bernama
