Man crushed to death by bullet train in China after running across tracks
NANJING - A man in his 30s was crushed to death by a bullet train in China on Sunday (March 26) after a failed attempt to run across the tracks.
Footage circulating on social media shows the man's body wedged between the train and the platform at Nanjing South Railway Station. The upper half of his body from the waist up is visible.
Another video also emerged of the man - who was not identified by local media - sprinting in front of the incoming train. He is pinned by the train while trying to hoist himself up onto the platform. It was not clear why he had been running on the tracks.
Eyewitnesses said the man remained conscious as he attempted to free himself while the authorities rushed to the scene.
But he eventually lost consciousness and was pronounced dead at the scene. Rescue personnel were forced to break apart the concrete platform to create a gap and pull his body out.
Nanjing South Railway Station later released a statement confirming the incident, which it said happened at around 3.43pm local time.
It added that the man had been stuck between platform 22 and the first carriage of the bullet train, which runs at an average speed of 300kmh.
The authorities are investigating the incident. - The Strait Times
