MACC nabs cops over alleged graft
KANGAR: The Perlis Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested two policemen from the Kubang Pasu mobile patrol unit for allegedly receiving bribes from ketum leaf distributors.
The duo, believed to be a sergeant and a corporal, were detained at 2.20pm yesterday while they were on duty at the Kedah-Perlis border.
Perlis MACC director Yaacop Angah said the two were arrested to help investigations into a bribery case amounting to RM4,000.
The payment was allegedly an inducement for them to not take action against a ketum planter who was recently detained by the police.
Yaacop added that the case was investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine five times the value of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
