KUALA LUMPUR: A gang of robbers has been going on a crime spree around Brickfields for the past six months, breaking into homes and driving off with the vehicles.
Police finally caught up on them on Monday, arresting three of the robbers at a homestay in Nibong Tebal, Penang, at about 2am.
The three men, aged between 30 and 39, have 15 convictions between them for vehicle theft and drug-related offences.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Shahrul Othman said the men were arrested after a month of investigation and surveillance.
“We interrogated the men and seized five vehicles and various tools used to break into homes and vehicles. We believe they were involved in at least 10 break-ins and vehicle thefts,” he told reporters here yesterday.
The cars seized were a Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Honda City, Toyota Vellfire and Mazda CX-5 worth about RM1mil.
“Their modus operandi included breaking into houses and driving away in the vehicles. Most likely, the stolen vehicles were intended to be sold overseas,” he said.
Police are also looking for Lee Woon Fong, 36, from No 1 Hala Pegoh 28, Bandar Pengkalan Indah, Perak, and Yeo Yong Kuang, 33, from 169A Jalan Keris 1, Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Baru, to help in the investigation
