JOHOR BARU: A high-speed police car chase in Taman Johor Jaya here ended with a shot being fired and a man being apprehended.
Details are scant at the moment, but the 2pm incident at Jalan Ros Merah 2/11 saw police in a patrol car in hot pursuit of two men in a green Proton Wira.
The chase ended outside a row of shops here.
When backup police arrived to sweep the scene for evidence, the green Proton Wira was seen stationary by the roadside. The police patrol car was seen next to it.
The area was cordoned off to the public.
Witness Faizal Fakri, 34, a mechanic at a workshop here, said he heard a loud bang, which was probably the result of a collision between the police car and the vehicle it was pursuing.
He said he saw a policeman running after a man in front of the workshop.
"It happened so quickly. A shot was fired and I saw a man collapsing to the ground before he was apprehended by the police," he said.
Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Jokhiri Abd Aziz confirmed the incident, but did not divulge details of the case.
He said investigations are still being carried out at the scene.
