KUALA LUMPUR: A oil palm fruit picker was yesterday charged at the magistrate's court for the murder of a former car repossessor in Setapak in July, last year.
D. Manivannan, 33, was charged with murdering Kandasamy Vathu, 43, at Jalan Taman Ibukota, Setapak in Wangsa Maju, near here at about 3.35pm on July 27.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death sentence, upon conviction.
However no plea was recorded.
Counsel Nur Ezzah Abdullah represented Manivannan while deputy public prosecutor Aftal Mariz Mohamed, appeared for the prosecution.
Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin fixed May 29 for mention and document submission.
It was reported that Kandasamy was shot dead at a busy intersection near Setapak.
Kandasamy who was driving a Honda Accord at the time was shot 16 times in the incident.
