KUALA LUMPUR: A tourist guide died shortly after he was shot twice on his back at Jalan Klang Lama, here, last night.
In the 10pm incident happened near a clinic and restaurant there, the victim - S. Devananthan, 27, had just arrived at the location with a friend.
City Criminal Investigations Department acting chief Assistant Commisioner Khairy Ahrasa said the victim was earlier picked up by his friend at his house nearby to go for a drink at the restaurant there.
"When they arrived at the incident location, a Proton Saga rammed their car from behind before four men disembarked.
"One of the men then shouted at the victim, saying that he should be chopped up.
"Hearing this, the victim exited the Proton Wira and tried to run away, when three shots were fired towards him," he told reporters during a press conference in the city police headquarters here earlier today.
Khairy said the victim's friends, who were eating at the restaurant, immediately sent him to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He said police investigations found that the assailants had targeted the victim, and they are investigating the motive.

Police have also picked up two suspects - including a woman in her 30s who owns the Proton Wira, and the victim's friend who drove it.
Khairy also said they have identified one of the suspects, and a special task force was set up to investigate the case.
