CYBERJAYA: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) will begin the second phase of its month-long water rationing exercise on March 2 that will affect some 2.2 million users in the Klang Valley.
National Water Services Commission Chairman Datuk Ismail Kassim said the rationing which begins on Sunday would go on until March 31.
The commission has decided to reduce the volume of water released from the Selangor and Klang gates dams and the water distribution will proceed with unless the situation improved.
Areas that would not be affected were the Kuala Lumpur Central Business District, the Putrajaya Federal Administrative centre, Selangor government administrative centre in Shah Alam, Port Klang, KLIA and Subang Airports, Public and
Private hospitals, and free trade zones.
Ismail said the rationing is expected to reduce the release of water to 200 million litres per day in Sg. Selangor dam, and 30 million litres per day from the dam in Klang Gates.
Water supply will be cut from the homes on two day intervals in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor districts.
