PETALING JAYA: Three motorcyclists died and three others were injured after being hit by a car while sheltering under a bridge at Kilometer 19.6 of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) heading south, Sunday morning.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Fakhrudin Ambul Hamid said that the test carried out on the driver found that his body contained alcohol above the legal limit.

Elaborating on the incident, he said, three victims were confirmed dead at the scene while those injured, including one seriously, were sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

According to him, in the incident at 5.59 am, all the victims aged 19 to 37 stopped to take shelter in the emergency lane under the bridge because of the rain.

"Preliminary investigations found that the driver of the Honda City Hatchback was traveling from the capital to Cyberjaya.

"On arrival at the scene of the accident, the car driven by the suspect lost control causing the vehicle to skid and hit six men who were sheltering under the bridge due to the rain," he said in a statement here on Sunday.

He said that the driver of the car was detained to allow an investigation to be carried out in accordance with Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
