KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- A senior official of Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a raid at the ministry this morning.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki when contacted by Bernama confirmed the matter.
The arrest is believed to be related to allegations that the suspect had set up a foreign recruitment agency to obtain the approval of the ministry despite a conflict of interest.
It is understood that there are other individuals arrested to assist in the investigation of the case.
In PUTRAJAYA, Sivakumar said he and the Ministry of Human Resources will give full cooperation to the MACC if necessary following the arrest of its officers.
"I am aware of the arrest of officers from my office. As this matter is still under investigation by the MACC, I cannot provide any comment regarding this matter," he said in a statement here.
He hoped the media would not make any assumptions or speculations that could affect any party until the agency's investigation is completed.
