KUCHING, Nov 12 -- Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah today expressed shock and embarrassment over the remarks made by Bintulu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing against Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in Parliament yesterday.
He said he disagreed with Tiong’s action even though the latter, who is the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president, is one of the leaders in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition of which PBB is also a component party.
“He (Tiong) may be our leader but he should know how to use his words properly,” he told a press conference at the sideline of the state legislative assembly sitting.
Abdul Karim, who is also State Tourism, Culture and Arts Minister was commenting on Tiong’s remarks at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday claiming that Dr Noor Hisham was afraid of death for not going to Sabah to visit hospitals and personally give moral support to frontliners there in fighting COVID-19.
“Honestly I was shocked. I didn’t expect it from him, I feel ashamed as well, as it came from a fellow Sarawakian. We should acknowledge what the frontliners have been doing in this difficult time,” said Abdul Karim.
On Tiong’s insistence that he would not retract the remarks and merely wanted to reflect the frustration of some frontliners, Abdul Karim said Tiong was being overzealous and rude, especially in his position as a Member of Parliament.
“You ask any Malaysian, I think they love this director-general (Dr Noor Hisham). They love him more than any of our politicians or ministers because they know he is very sincere,” he added.
