Nine men charged in connection with labourer's abduction

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 11 -- Nine men - six Myanmar nationals and three locals, were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with kidnapping a Myanmar labourer last month.
The foreigners namely Bosiullah Amir Hussin,30, Ali Ullah Kalim Ullah,33, Rohim Ullah Hasson,33, Mohammad Noor Soyod Alam, 26, Nur Kamal Mohd Anis,30, Soyadul Rahaman Abdul Shukur, 28, and three locals Nizam Mohd Yusuf, 28, Johan Anuar, 39, Muhammad Ridzuan A. Hashim,24, along with another, who is still at large, were charged with abducting Ali Didar, 39, for a RM300,00 0 ransom.
The offence was allegedly committed at Kampung Baru Alma, Bukit Mertajam here at 2.15pm on Oct 20.
The accused only nodded when the charge was read out to them before Magistrate Sri Praca Nanthini Balabedha.
The charge framed under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction. An accused is liable to whipping if there is no death sentence.
The court then set Dec 11 for mention pending chemical and telecommunications reports.
Deputy public prosecutor M. Kalaivaanan appeared for the prosecution while counsel T. Turuvandran represented the six Myanmar nationals and counsel Mohd Izad Buqhary Mohd Kamri, the three locals.
