Malaysian YouTube user Shawn Lee uploaded dramatic video footage of a black Volkswagen Polo speeding along Jalan Pudu before it slams into a police car as it emerges out of an underpass near the old Pudu Jail, in downtown Kuala Lumpur.
The hit and run, recorded on a dashcam, occurs 3 minutes and 21 seconds into the video. Upon hitting the police car, the Polo is then seen pushing it to the edge of the left lane of the road, causing it to make a clockwise turn before ending up facing the oncoming traffic on the right lane. The Polo is then seen speeding off from the scene.
In the rest of the video, two police officers are seen stepping out of the bedraggled car, looking shaken though seemingly unhurt.
According to the video’s time and date stamp, the accident occurred at 9:09am on June 22. After it was uploaded to YouTube a day later, the video went viral on social media.
In The Star Online report of the incident, Kuala Lumpur traffic police investigation and traffic law officer Deputy Superintendent S. Markandan says that a 21-year-old college student lodged a police report later that day claiming responsibility for the hit and run. The case is currently being investigated as driving while under the influence.
