SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has apologised to the two women asked by a security guard to wear a sarong before entering the State Secretariat building on Monday.
State secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi said the state had never issued such a ruling and the security guard had been given a stern warning.
“There is a dress code but we never have rules for the sarong. We will make sure such incidents never ever happen again,” he said when contacted Monday.
Khusrin said there was also no instruction to turn away anyone who visited the State Secretariat even if they were inappropriately dressed.
"We will advise them to dress more appropriately the next time. We do not chase them away or ask them to cover up with a sarong,” he said.
Asked if this could be an act of sabotage, he said the guard claimed he made the decision on his own.
Earlier, Mentri Besar Azmin Ali Azmin also said there was no "sarong" ruling.
“We do not have such regulations," he said when met after an event at the Istana Kayangan in Shah Alam.
The incident occurred barely two weeks after a woman motorist, wearing a top and skirt which ended just above her knees, was told to wear a sarong or be refused service at a Road Transport Department (JPJ) office.
In the Monday incident, journalist C. Premananthini, 32, said she was at the guardhouse to collect the visitor's pass for a press conference when one of the guards on duty told her that her dress was too short.
