PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has summoned MIC president Datuk Seri G Palanivel to "explain" the comments he made at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Saturday.
"He should stop blaming others and must abide by the decision of the courts and Registrar of Societies (RoS)," tweeted Najib on Sunday.
Defense Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein retweeted Najib's message with the comment "I agree".
Palanivel told thousands of supporters at a special gathering on Saturday, that Najib and Barisan Nasional "got involved in pressuring MIC to reject the 2013 election results".
He said since then, the party was taken to court to challenge the directive by the RoS to hold re-election of all posts.
The High Court on June 16 dismissed two judicial review applications filed by Palanivel and others in relation to the RoS directive for the party to hold fresh elections.
It upheld RoS’ decision for the party to hold re-elections at all levels (branches and divisions) including the president’s post.
Palanivel said the party will hold its branch election starting August and called for the support of all 300 branches to back him as their leader.
Palanivel also said that there will be a time for him to be replaced, where his place will be taken over by his current secretary general. S.Sothinathan and vice president Datuk S. Balakrishnan.
MIC is in disarray at the moment, with two rival factions claiming to be in charge of the party.
