Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud has been on the charts for a whole year now
Ed Sheeran song Thinking Out Loud has extended its UK Top 40 singles chart run to a year.
That’s a record run, according to the British Phonographic Industry’s Twitter account, @bpi_music.
Frank Sinatra has the record for most weeks in the British singles chart, though at a time when it was a Top 50 rather than Top 40. My Way accumulated a 124-week tally during the years 1969, 1970 and 1971, but ducked out of the chart in doing so.
More recently, the Pharrell Williams track Happy achieved 49 weeks in a row, as noted by Billboard.
Originally a free download for iTunes users in June 18, 2014, Thinking Out Loud benefited from the Official Charts Company’s decision to include audio streams in its weekly rankings starting that same month.
The BPI and Entertainment Retailers Association joint venture counted every 100 streams from across a half dozen member services as equivalent to the sale of 1 download or physical single. – AFP Relaxnews
