IPOH: Malaysia’s Bhangra ambassador and Goldkartz singer Sukhjit Singh Gill has been called to the Bar, becoming the fifth member of his family to turn lawyer in the very same courtroom of the Ipoh High Court.
He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor at the High Court, completing a run that sees the father and all children in the family as lawyers.
The order yesterday was made by Datuk Zainal Adzam Abd Ghani, the same judge who admitted Sukhjit’s fellow Goldkartz singer and brother Manjit in 2009.
Their father Tan Sri Darshan Singh was the first to become a lawyer in front of then Datuk Hashim Yeop Sani in 1976.
Eldest sibling Datuk Amarjit Singh was admitted to the Bar by Datuk James Foong in 2000, followed by sister Ranjit Kaur Gill by Datuk Hamid Embong in 2002.
Sukhjit graduated with a law degree with honours from Universiti Malaya last year.
He and Manjit will be off to Russia this week to perform Bhangra at the Russian-Asian Modern Culture Festival.
