Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic) called a social media report that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would resign from the Cabinet, a political provocation by certain quarters.
Denying any such possibility, the Prime Minister said he had the best of relations and understanding with Muhyiddin, Bernama reported today.
"As the deputy prime minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has always backed and brought to fruition all national policies and development agendas of the national transformation programme initiated by me," he said in a statement.
Najib added that he worked well with his deputy in Umno and in the government.
Calling it an ongoing effort, he said, their relationship demanded much more to be done by the both of them in all aspects to strengthen and enhance the struggles of Umno and the Barisan Nasional.
"With the very good relations and understanding between me and Muhyiddin, I am convinced that we can face all the challenges to develop the nation and raise the people's trust in the BN leadership," Bernama quoted Najib as saying.
The rumour on Muhyiddin resigning from the Cabinet to focus on efforts to strengthen Umno was reported by blogs and other social media websites in recent days.
There was also speculation that such reports were due to the talk of an impending Cabinet reshuffle by Najib to bring in leaders from BN component parties MCA and Gerakan.
Muhyiddin denied yesterday that we would be leaving the Cabinet, saying he would continue to serve as the deputy prime minister so long as his services were required and that so far nothing had been raised with regard to that position, Bernama reported. – June 20, 2014.
