Embassy driver and friend shot

PETALING JAYA: A driver who works at an embassy and his female friend were injured when they were shot at near a temple construction site here.
The 37-year-old and his female companion earlier met up with six other friends for drinks before the shooting in Puchong Gateway.
Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said, after the get-together, the victims left at about 2am yesterday for the Puchong Gateway area with the friends in three cars.
He said two men on a black Honda EX-5 motorcycle approached the friends at about 5.10am near the temple, which was under construction. One alighted from the motorcycle and fired several shots at them.
“One of the shots hit the man’s right thigh while another shot grazed his female friend’s right hand,” he said, adding that the two suspects then fled the scene.
ACP Yahaya said the duo were recovering at the Serdang Hospital. “They are in a stable condition.”
Police found six 9mm bullet slugs at the scene.
“We are investigating the motive behind the shooting,” ACP Yahaya said, adding that the case was being probed under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
This is the third shooting case near a temple in two months.
On June 6, a 31-year-old florist, A. Regen, had gone to a temple in Puchong to pray for the safe delivery of his first-born when he was gunned down.
An assailant shot at Regen, who was walking out of the temple with his mother, nephew and another relative that night.
On May 24, Vijendran Mohan @ Takali and a friend apparently confronted a 41-year-old former gangster, while the latter was praying at the Sri Vinaygar Temple in Kampung Ladang Baru Sg Pelong, Kuang.
However, the man pulled out a gun and shot Vijendran, 25, killing him instantly.
