Two pilots, six workers survive after chopper crashes into sea off Miri
MIRI: Two pilots and six Petronas Carigali workers survived after their helicopter crashed into the sea off Miri while enroute to an offshore platform on Thursday.
The helicopter was transporting them to the platform located some 92 nautical miles off the northern Sarawak gas capital of Bintulu.
It encountered problems before it could land and crashed into the sea. The eight were rescued by platform crews and those from passing vessels.
It is learnt that the pilot and co-pilot suffered injuries and have been sent to the hospital.
Bintulu police chief Supt Madang Asat confirmed that a police report had been lodged over the incident and the maritime police have started a probe.
