POLICE WARN ORGANISER NOT TO GO AHEAD WITH THE PLANNED PROTEST ON NEW YEARS EVE

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have warned organisers ahead of the planned protest at Dataran Merdeka on New Year's Eve.
City deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Amar Singh said police personnel would be placed at the venue to monitor the situation.

Dataran Merdeka would also be the venue for a New Year's Eve celebration organised by Kuala Lumpur City Hall where 20,000 people are expected to attend.
"We have prepared our personnel and we will not hesitate to take action if there are any people who cause trouble during the New Year's Eve celebration," he told a press conference at the City Police headquarters on Saturday.

DCP Amar also urged the public not the get involved or support the gathering as it was against the law.
He added that the gathering was illegal, as police had not received any 10-day notice as required by law.
