Security Service Companies Supplying Firearms To Triad

Ahmad Zahid: Security service firms supplying

firearms to triad to face music

GEORGE TOWN: The Home Ministry will come down hard on several security service companies found illegally supplying firearms to secret societies, said its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the clandestine activity was uncovered by the police when they carried out checks on 125 security companies in the country.
"They have ignored a warning issued by the ministry and stern action will be taken against them for supplying arms to triad," he told reporters after visiting the Penang Police Headquarters here today.
The police also found several security companies leasing their companies to a third party without changing the ownership equity although the companies were run by the third party, he said, adding that their licence might be revoked.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said about 39,000 of 1.1 million people screened during 'Ops Cantas' from Aug 17 until Tuesday were arrested for various offences.
Brushing aside that the operation targets a particular race, he said 55 per cent of those arrested were Malays followed by Indians (30 per cent) and Chinese and other races (15 per cent).
Ahmad Zahid said about 10,000 of those arrested had criminal records.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid attended a tribute to fallen national heroes, who died during the Lahad Datu intrusion early this year, at Padang Kota here.
He thanked the Penang government for contributing RM300,000 to next of kin of the fallen soldiers and policemen.  -- BERNAMA
