KUALA LUMPUR: Solicitor General, Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh was appointed as Attorney General with effect from next Wednesday to replace Tan Sri Idrus Harun, whose contractual appointment will expire on September 5.
The matter was confirmed by the Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali in a statement on Friday.
However, no information about the period of service was mentioned in the statement.
"It is to be informed that in accordance with Clause (1) Article 145 of the Federal Constitution, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has approved the appointment of Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh as Attorney General with effect from September 6," he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zuki also expressed his gratitude to Idrus for his service during his tenure.
Idrus was previously a former Federal Court Judge, appointed as Attorney General with a two-year contract starting 6 March 2020 to replace Tan Sri Tommy Thomas, who resigned on 28 February 2020.
He was then reappointed to hold the position for a period of six months with effect from 6 March 2023.
Terrirudin, 54, is the first candidate from the Judicial and Legal Services since Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail held the highest position between 2002 and 2015.
Before being appointed as Solicitor General in March last year, Ahmad Terrirudin was the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court.
