Singapore Presidential Election: Singaporeans cast votes for country’s 9th president

More than 2.7 million Singaporeans will head to the polling stations on Friday (Sep 1) to vote for the country’s next president.

Early morning saw queues forming at some polling stations, and the Elections Department said technical issues with the e-registration system are being resolved.

As of 12pm, about 52 per cent of eligible voters had cast their votes.

As at 3pm, 2,004,961 Singaporeans – or about 74 per cent of the total number of eligible electors – had voted, said the Elections Department (ELD).

It added that voting was proceeding smoothly, with only a handful of the polling stations with short queues.

Polls opened at 8am and close at 8pm as Singaporeans vote for the Republic’s ninth president.
