SUNGAI PETANI, October 4 -- Police have solved at least 10 housebreaking cases in this district, including one involving RM2 million, with the arrest of five suspected members of the “Geng Fizi”.

Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Adzly Abu Shah said the five men, aged between 26 and 56, were nabbed in operations conducted in Baling, Sungai Petani and Kuala Lumpur between Sept 19 and Oct 1.

He said the gang was busted after they had struck at a luxury house in Bandar Utama here on Sept 14.

“In the incident, the victim suffered losses of about RM2 million, comprising RM1.7 million cash, jewellery and two bags kept in a safe box in the master bedroom.

“On returning home, the victim had found the front gate wide open and signs of forced entry through the main door. He later lodged a police report that his house had been burgled,” he told reporters here today.

Adzly said following the arrests, police recovered RM105,000 cash, 12 branded handbags and various tools believed to have been used to break into houses.

“Investigations show that the main suspect, in his 30s, has 37 criminal records including on drugs. Two of the suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.

“This group has been active since early 2020 in the Sungai Petani area, and police are still looking for a local woman believed linked to the gang,” he said.

He said the gang normally targeted luxury houses and gained entry by forcing open the doors.

The five suspects have been remanded from Sept 19 to Oct 9 for investigation.
