KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh will be assigned to the director of Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (JSJK), effective 9 November.
The promotion was announced by Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) Corporate Communications Chief, ACP Datin Asmawati Ahmad in a press conference yesterday. In total, there will be 42 adjustments in the top posts of the police force.
In taking the post, Amar Singh will replace Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, who is appointed as the director of Bukit Aman Technological and Strategic Resource Department.
Replacing Amar as the new Kuala Lumpur police chief is his deputy, Datuk Mazlan Lazim, who is also promoted to the rank of Commissioner Police.
Amar Singh, 59, was the deputy director of federal police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bukit Aman before he was elected as Kuala Lumpur police chief on 14 March 2016, replacing Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa. He became the first Sikh officer to hold the KL police chief post.
His appointment marked an important moment in the history of the PDRM, giving recognition to the country’s ethnic minorities who are currently serving in the police, particularly Sikhs which only consisted 0.16 percent of the whole police force.
Ever since he joined the force on 27 February 1983, he has served in various capacities, police contingents and formations throughout his illustrious career spanning 34 years.
Other notable appointments include Datuk Fatimah Abd Hamid as the deputy director of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin as the deputy director of JSJK, and ACP Mohd Nadzri Hussain as chief deputy director of Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism (STAGG).
