KUCHING: A couple's decision to employ eight Vietnamese fishermen to kickstart their deep sea fishing business has come back to haunt them.
The men, aged between 18 and 47, have been arrested for allegedly molesting the couple's four-year-old daughter.
The incident came to light when the girl began complaining of pain to her mother, 33, who is also a Vietnamese, about midnight yesterday.
Padawan district police chief Superintendent Aidil Bolhassan said the girl told her mother that the men had “dumped rubbish” inside her private parts.
“Shocked by her daughter’s confession, the woman checked the girl and found signs that she had been molested,” said Aidil in a statement today.
The couple believe the incident took place when they left their daughter in the care of the men yesterday. The men and the girl were at an in-law's house in Matang while the couple were away renewing the suspects' work visas.
The victim's mother also said she saw her daughter playing with some of the men around 7pm. She, however, did not suspect anything amiss.
“The couple and their daughter have been staying with their in-laws since their return from Vietnam to start a deep sea fishing business three months ago.
“The girl's father, who is a local, had employed and brought in the men three week ago and they are temporarily staying in the same house,” he said.
Aidil said police arrested the suspects from the same house about 5am today.
“The girl has been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital here for a medical examination,” he said adding that the police are awaiting the test results.
All the suspects, he said, would be produced in court tomorrow for remand.
