MERSING: Tunku Alang Reza Tunku Ibrahim, one of the suspects in the murder of an Estonian model three years ago, was killed in a car crash here.
Tunku Alang was among seven suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Regina Soosalu who was found dead while vacationing on Pulau Rawa on July 1, 2014.
Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said the 31-year-old was in the back of a four-wheel drive vehicle with three others when it crashed into a bus stop at 6.34pm on Friday (Oct 27).
The female driver of the vehicle, identified as Salma @ Noraini Adam, 37, also succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the Mersing Hospital.
"Initial investigations showed that the group was heading to Johor Baru from Mersing when the driver lost control of the vehicle at KM15 of Jalan Jemaluang—Mersing," DSP Nuing said in a statement.
He said Tunku Alang died at the scene of the accident.
In the Soosalu murder case, Tunku Alang, who claimed to be her boyfriend, was arrested along with a group of people after police changed their investigations from drowning to murder after discovering "suspicious wounds" on the model's body.
More recently, Tunku Alang was charged with three counts of taking methamphetamine and possessing similar drugs and ganja in June this year.
Following this, the Johor Council of Royal Court issued a statement on Sept 21 denying that Tunku Alang was part of the royal family.
