PETALING JAYA: Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali is furious and wants to sue the person who made him feel so.
“It is all rubbish and highly defamatory. I intend to sue the writer till kingdom come,” the top prosecutor said in reference to blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin’s article entitled Strong Rumours Surrounding the AG: Part 1 published in a blog on Friday.
“I am seriously going to sue and am consulting my lawyer friends in the UK. This is nothing but fake news done with evil intention,” Apandi said yesterday.
The article made all sorts of allegations about purported corruption, which he vehemently denied.
The article also touched on how Apandi got his job as A-G, which the latter sternly denied.
Raja Petra also wrote about a purported meeting in 2015 between senior judges – namely former Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria, Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Shariff and Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin – with a senior politician about an alleged plot by someone to topple the Government.
Before he became the country’s top prosecutor two years ago, Apandi had a colourful career serving in legal practice, as a senior judge and in politics.
Apandi’s career began after he graduated in law from the University of London in 1972, before going on to serve as magistrate in Kuala Terengganu from 1973 to 1975.
He was then appointed director of the Legal Aid Bureau in his birthplace of Kota Baru for the next two years, later acting as deputy public prosecutor in Kelantan and Terengganu from 1977 to 1980.
Apandi then became legal adviser to a ministry, before entering private practice and setting up his own law firm in 1982.
In 2003, Apandi again entered civil service, starting off as a judicial commissioner in the Kuantan High Court, before rising to be a judge on Dec 21, 2004.
In 2013, he became a Federal Court judge and served until he was appointed as A-G.
