KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth members today lodged a police report over the dissemination of fake letters bearing the purported signature of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak seeking support from the corporate sector.

Umno Youth exco member Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin said the letter, dated April 6, had also abused the letterhead of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Part of the letter, he said stated: “Your leadership in your sector has not gone unnoticed, hence you are receiving this letter from me.

“With the next General Election coming soon, I would like to use this medium to reach out to your humble self and solicit for your support and loyalty. With an amiable personality, such as yourself behind me, I am confident that we will achieve great things working together.”

The letter also urged recipients to revert their replies to a purported Najib’s personal email which was included in the letter.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report at Dang Wangi police headquarters, Nazir urged the police to take action against the culprits behind the dissemination of the letter which was intended to tarnish Najib’s credibility.

“It is an attack towards the PM especially since the general election is getting closer. This is something well-planned, it should not be taken easily.

“I urged those who received the letters to lodge a police report or at least verify it with the PMO,” he said, adding that he believed similar letters have been sent out to other corporate bodies and individuals.

Nazir said he received the letter written to Tan Sri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim, the managing director of Weststar Group, last Friday.

“I have verified with the PMO on that day itself and the office said they never distributed such letter.

"There is a possibility for the culprits were asking for fund by abusing the PM’s name.” he said.
