Lady driver's remand extended over Baling accident

ALOR SETAR: The lady driver, who was involved in an accident which killed the Baling narcotics division chief and his wife, was remanded for another four days, beginning Saturday.

Baling police chief Supt Shariffudin Yusof said the remand order was issued to the 37-year-old woman to enable investigations under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We have opened two investigation papers as the case involved narcotics and traffic," he said when contacted here.

The suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was previously remanded for four days under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In the 7.15am incident on Tuesday, ASP Mohd Noor Mat Yaub was on his way to send his wife, Suriya Abdul Rahman, 37, a teacher, to SK Teluk Teduri when the back of their car was hit by another car.

The victim's vehicle entered the opposite lane and collided with another car at Kampung Teluk Teduri, Jalan Baru Kupang-Baling.

Both husband and wife died on the spot while their four children were injured. - Bernama
