Former Petaling Jaya councillor Peter Chong, claims he was abducted

'Missing' activist Peter Chong claims he was abducted in Hatyai

PETALING JAYA: Former Petaling Jaya councillor Peter Chong, who arrived home Sunday after supposedly going missing in Thailand for a week, claims he was abducted in Hatyai.

The former aide to a PKR MP also apparently told police that he had gone to southern Thailand to meet someone over the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh, but was abducted along the way.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said Chong claimed that he went to Hatyai to meet a source for information on the disappearance of Koh.
He told police that upon reaching Hatyai, he was abducted and brought to Pattaya before he was released.
He claimed he then contacted his son who arranged for a plane ticket home.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, via his Twitter handle @kbab51, posted two photos Sunday of Chong clad in shorts and blue T-shirt believed to be at the KLIA International Airport.
"Syabas @PDRMsia Kuala Lumpur (well done, Kuala Lumpur police). 'Missing' Peter Chong is back from Pattaya, this afternoon," he said.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said police questioned Chong upon his arrival at KL International Airport.
"We handed him over to his family around 2.15pm today. There is no criminal element present but we are still investigating the case," he said when contacted Sunday.
Last Wednesday, Khalid had said police have evidence that Chong crossed the border at the Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration checkpoint into Thailand at around 6.30am on April 7 and that there was no record of his return to Malaysia.
Chong disappeared not long after posting an update on his Facebook page on March 31 claiming a strange encounter with an unnamed man.
The former personal assistant to Subang MP R. Sivarasa claimed that he was warned to be careful because many people were going missing.
Koh, 62, was abducted by a group of men in Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya on Feb 13 when he was on his way to a friend's house.
CCTV footage showed that at least 15 men in three SUVs were involved in Koh's abduction.
