BUKIT MERTAJAM: The 19-year-old girl who allegedly drove against traffic on the North-South Expressway near Permatang Pauh and caused a fatal accident claimed trial Friday to a drug-related charge.
Ng Pei Ven pleaded not guilty at a magistrate's court here to a charge of taking amphetamines. She is also under investigation for reckless driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Ng, a part-time model, had tested positive for the drug at the Central Seberang Prai district police headquarters at about 5pm on Tuesday after the accident.
The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or a jail term of not more than two years.
Magistrate Jamiliah Abdul Manap granted RM5,000 bail in two sureties and set May 12 for mention.
Asst Supt Md Azman Kadir prosecuted the case.
Ng allegedly drove her car against traffic flow on the highway on Tuesday morning and collided with four other vehicles at KM134 before coming to a halt.
A motorist was killed when her vehicle hit his car head-on while two other cars as well as a van and a motorcycle were damaged in the incident.
