IGP: Tuhan Harun followers planned to assassinate other authority figures
PETALING JAYA: Tuhan Harun cult followers planned to assassinate more authority figures, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.
He said initial investigations revealed that cult members were not only responsible for planning and carrying out the assassination of Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) enforcement director Ahmad Rafli Abdul Malek last month, but were also in the midst of planning other hits.
"It is fortunate that we managed to catch the leader and some of the followers as they were planning to assassinate others as well," he told a press conference in Wakaf Tapai, Kuala Terengganu, Thursday.
"We have already caught two of the 10 wanted followers of the Tuhan Harun cult... we are still looking for eight more."
When pressed to name those targeted by the cult, Khalid refused to comment further but stated that the followers were extremists who would resort to killing those who stood in their way.
