More than 100 attend murdered teen’s funeral
KUALA LUMPUR: The mood at the Kwong Tong Funeral Parlour was sombre as more than 100 mourners came to pay their last respects to brutally murdered Ng Yuk Tim.
Among the scores of friends and family who attended the ceremony yesterday morning were two of the 15-year-old’s classmates.
Natalie Siow and Nicole Teng, still in their school uniforms, took time off from school to say their last goodbye to Yuk Tim.
“I found out about her death when it was shown on the news. I was shocked over what had happened to her,” said Natalie.
Nicole said Yuk Tim was “a happy-go-lucky girl and was always there for her friends”.
Yuk Tim’s 10-year-old sister Ee Sin and her aunt Serene Sim, 31, were the only immediate family members at yesterday’s ceremony.
The little girl bravely led the funeral procession as teary-eyed friends and relatives followed closely.
Her mother Sim Yee Ling said it was a Taoist tradition in which parents and grandparents were discouraged from attending the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the police are expected to wrap up investigations into the murder by next week.
Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the police were satisfied with the suspect’s statement.
“He has been remanded until Oct 29. We are making sure that we have all the bases covered,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
“We advise the public not to speculate on the case.”
Yuk Tim was last seen leaving her home on Monday at 11am to meet the suspect to work on cosplay outfits for an upcoming competition.
The 23-year-old allegedly tried to rape Yuk Tim before bludgeoning her head with a dumbbell.
Her body was found in a foetal position in a suitcase in Jalan Kebun Nenas near Kota Kemuning on Tuesday.
The suspect has been remanded to facilitate investigations.
