KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no recounting of votes for the third slot in the vice-presidential race won by Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

Umno election committee head Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said there was only a nine-vote difference between Hishammuddin's final count of 100 and Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir's 91.

He said a recount would be called in cases where the difference was three votes.

It is learnt that three divisions - Semporna, Keningau and Baling - had given both Hishammuddin and Mukhriz the same number of votes, although this would not warrant the recount.

Tajol Rosli made the clarification at a press conference after Mukhriz made a surprise visit to the PWTC at about 1am Sunday, believed to be over the results of the race.

Tajol Rosli, however, confirmed that Mukhriz had not ask for a recount of the votes.

It is understood that Mukhriz, who was accompanied by his brother Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir, was unhappy with the results.

Mukhriz was seen entering the media buffet area for a discussion with Tajol Rosli.

The media was not allowed into the room, but according to an eyewitness Mukhriz seemed to be asking Tajol some questions about the results.
