Surendran Fitted With Body Armour In Preparation For Raid

Surendran gets body armour in preparation for raid

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president N. Surendran will be flanked by police officers when he follows them on armed operations in addition to being given a 6kg body armour to wear.

The Padang Serai MP went to have his body armour fitted at the Bukit Aman police headquarters yesterday in the presence of his legal adviser, Subang MP Sivarasa Rasaiah, and federal deputy CID director Deputy Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor.

Feeling secure: Surendran wearing his 6kg body armour at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
They also discussed details of the indemnity documents, which included a condition prohibiting Surendran from carrying a firearm during police operations against armed criminals.

Surendran said this was in accordance with one of the 10 points listed in the indemnity documents.
“I will not be provided with ammunition as I have no licence to use firearms,” Surendran said.
Sivarasa said in addition to not receiving training prior to raids, Surendran would be required to be on standby because the raids would be announced at random.
“Signing the indemnity Bill means that the police will not be liable for any incident that might happen to Surendran.
“He will be joining the operations completely at his own risk,” said Sivarasa.
He added that Surendran would only sign the indemnity documents following thorough discussions with party leaders and Federal CID director Comm Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had invited Surendran to join them on armed raids following his tweet last Friday which condemned Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s “shoot-first” policy.
“My acceptance of IGP Khalid’s offer was a knee-jerk response, but one made in good faith,” Surendran said.
