Bukit Gasing Assemblyman's iPad Snatched From His Hands While Having Breakfast at Stall

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran (pix) became a victim of snatch theft when a man grabbed his iPad from his hands while he was having breakfast in Jalan Othman here on Monday.

Rajiv was seated alone at a coffee shop and reading the news at 10.30am when the thief dashed through the shop and grabbed his iPad.

“He ran out and hopped on to a motorbike (with an accomplice) that was waiting. A guy in the restaurant tried to chase after them but they were too fast.

“It all happened in a few seconds and I was in such a state of shock that I couldn’t react,” Rajiv said, adding that he had lodged a police report on the matter.

He said a check on the iPad’s tracking feature showed that the last known location of the device was in Pantai Dalam but it has since been switched off.

Luckily, he said his iPad did not contain any personal or work-related material.

Though it was his first encounter with snatch thieves, Rajiv said his mother and younger brother have been victims in the past.

“Last year someone on a motorcycle rode up behind my brother while he was walking in SS14, Subang and whacked him on the head. They took his laptop. “I think it comes as no surprise that these things happen after hearing stories of theft from residents. I urge for more police presence in public areas to curb more cases of snatch theft from happening,” Rajiv said.

Petaling Jaya OCPD ACP Arjunaidi Mohammad confirmed the report and said police were investigating the tracking feature of the iPad and the CCTV footage from the coffee shop. — at Jalan Othman Petaling Jaya
